Tony HawkSync- 2014
We all know that skating by yourself doesn't even compare to skating with your friends. Tony doesn't just skate with his friends, he plays 2-player mode and kills it. With a mile long list of goddamn legends skating along side Mr. Hawk, this part is beyond impressive. I probably watched the Lance Mountain clip 75 times and I'm not sure that was enough. So next time you're out skating with your pals keep this video in mind, and don't try anything you saw here. You and your friend will both die, you're not qualified.
Dan PappasThe Better Life. 2006
Dan is one of the most naturally talented people I've ever seen on a skateboard in my entire life. Top notch style, trick selection, and I should probably mention that he's only 14 in this part. This was a guy destined to be "your favorite pro's favorite pro". However, due to injuries he now tickles the ivory on cruise ships which he probably does better than anyone else, as well. Rumor has it he filmed his ender for an ice cream! (ah, to be young again). Just watch the part and be jealous you'll never have a switch three flip like this dude!
We asked Pickard to pick a winner for us, and though it might not be congruent with some other picks we've made on our bracket, this is his little segment and Picky's allowed to pick whoever Picky picks...pick. And that's not to say he made a bad choice by any means, though based on many of the submitted brackets that I've seen, there is a clear favorite in our scene and he's the favorite for a very good reason (it's Dana). So with that said, I'll let Pickard get to picking and regardless of who wins or loses, who actually cares, this is one of the best events in the city and is always a great way to bring everyone together. So congratulations and good luck to all those skating in the event and a special thank you to Orchard, Pabst, and Converse for making this an annual thing. See you all tomorrow! -SMLTalk Staff
With Battle at the Barrics just one day away, one question is on everybody's mind: Who will take the title this year? With an event like BATB it really could be any of the 16 competitors...well probably not myself. Have you seen these other dudes skate? I'm fucked! Regardless, the fine gentlemen at SMLTalk have asked me to choose a BATB champion, and I have to say, I'm team #BabyDave all day!
Let's face it, if you live in New England there is no chance you're skating outside today, or probably for the next 85 years if this snow keeps up. So lets just forget about it for one day and watch two grown men fight in a super market! In the infamous words of Jim Ross "this ones a slobber knocker!" -Picky
Geoff Rowley Sorry 2002 "Oh that felt fucking tasty, I'd like to do it again...you ready?"
This part comes in heavy with gnarly slams, and is followed with one of the biggest bag of tricks in the game. I've probably watched this part over a hundred times and it never gets old. Even in 2015 this is still one of the best parts ever. It's hard to put into words how incredible this part truly is, so just watch it and get hyped!
"See that? Fuckin' hurt."
Shiloh Greathouse - First Love (2005) I can't decide what I like most about this part. Is it the opening monologue? Is it the incredible song choice? Is it the fact that he has not one, but two of the sickest and most random street grabs ever to accompany a barrage of insane ledge combos? Whatever it is, this part rules. Totally solid from start to finish, with something for everyone. Enjoy!
Lacey Baker - Meow skateboards 2014 Something many of you don't know about me is that I am a huge fan of girl skaters, which stemmed from seeing Alexis' part in PJ Ladd's Wonderful Horrible Life. Lacey has had a few parts come out in the last couple years and she rips. Watch that nollie heel, I'd kill for that thing. We could talk all day about girls belonging/not belonging in skateboarding, but with chicks like Lacey ripping harder than most dudes out there, I think that whole shit has been put to bed. Hope you enjoy.
p.s. the music kinda sucks but it's still a really good part.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98M1_DIznbI] Ellington has always been one of my favorite dudes to watch skate, so naturally I wanted to pick a part of his. This part is filled with brutal slams, one of a kind style, and some of the wildest gear ever. Not to mention he skates to Danzig which is absolutely incredible. So turn the volume up and enjoy this weeks pick!
The weekend's are a slow time around the SMLTalk HQ and it's not without good reason: skateboarding downtown, especially the more coveted flatground spots, is a weekend man's game. It should go without saying, but after a long week of providing you, our fair reader, with incredible content, we try to relax and rejuvenate at the local watering hole, only to stay too long, leading to heavy vomiting and absolutely no skating the next day. So with all that being said, we are beginning a new weekend segment called Picky's Picks. Our good friend and all around amazing human being, Erik Pickard, will pick a video of his choice and write a little something about it. Simple as that. It might not even be a skateboarding video, we gave him total control. It's almost impossible to say no to someone that handsome. From here on out, Sunday's belong to Erik "Picky" Pickard. Enjoy. - SMLTalk Staff
For the first installment of "Picky's Pick", a new weekly segment featuring whatever part from the skateboarding world I choose, I decided to go with one of my favorite parts of all time, Ragdoll from Pig Wood's 2005 video, Slaughterhouse.
This part has the craziest trick selections known to man. Don't believe me? Even his filmer has no idea what he's doing (4:36).
Just sit back, relax, and enjoy my pick and be sure to check back every Sunday for the part I pick next.
Who knows? It could be your part (it won't be, don't flatter yourself).
